Case Studies
Below are details of 3 of the many cases that I deal with.

Case Study 1
Case Study 2
Case Study 3

Case Study 1 - Shadow; Laminitic

Shadow: 15.2hh,18 yr old TBx, black gelding.

Shadow being treated – loving his neck stretch!

Shadow had Bone Spavin diagnosed in both hocks about 4 years ago. He wears hind shoe extensions and is administered 1-2 sachets of bute daily. Shadow is also a chronic laminitic.

Shadow is treated monthly to help him remain sound, by ensuring all his joints and spine are as free and mobile as possible. Shiatsu can also be useful in the treatment of laminitis. Anytime his owner feels he is a bit ‘lami-squific’ (her description of him displaying mild laminitic symptoms but not having a full blown episode), then she gives me a call to give Shadow a specific treatment to help his laminitis along with taking him off the grass and increasing his fibre intake and medication.

Case Study 2 - Sunny; Lameness

Sunny: 13hh, 14 yr old Chestnut gelding – Mounted Games Pony

Sunny

Sunny is a very fit & energetic Mounted Games pony with good muscle tone. I have been treating him every 6 weeks for about 9 months in order to keep him sound and competition ready.

Prior to this Sunny would regularly be lame on his off-side hind leg. Initially his owner, Jenny, was led to believe he may be suffering from Bone Spavin, but he presented to me as having back pain.

Sunny in now perfectly sound and even after long journey’s travelling to competitions throughout Britain, Ireland & Europe where he would regularly come out the horse-box stiff he is now absolutely fine.

He is an interesting case – as I always use Shiatsu & Spinal Therapy together; the Shiatsu has helped him on an emotional level as well as having a physical effect along with the Spinal Therapy. Shiatsu has had a wonderful effect on convincing him that being treated is to be enjoyed – where he used to repeatedly rear for the vet, farrier and other therapists – he now falls asleep!

His owner noticed when she bought him he did not have a natural curve in his back and now he does. Jenny also finds him far more flexible throughout his body – which really helps with his mounted games!

Case Study 3 - Wizzard; Arthritic

Wizzard: 14.3hh, 14 yr old, piebald cob gelding

Wizzard

Wizzard had Arthritis diagnosed in stifle joint of off-side hind leg, approx 18-24 months ago. He was extremely lame; he was on bute and unable to flex his hind leg without abducting it from body. He also dragged his hind leg in trot.

I have been treating Wizzard for about 18 months, he has been such a success story and is also proof that Shiatsu is not a ‘quick fix’ – but regular treatments over a period of time really can help with a disease such as Arthritis, which cannot be ‘cured’.

He now still has occasional ‘stiff’ days but can now be ridden quite happily without bute.
